Kingfisher House is a 14-bedded male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on the Kingsway Hospital site in Derby.
Kingfisher House adjoins the Carsington Unit, a 54-bed facility for working age adults, which allows for easier step-down care as service users' health improves.
Prior to the opening of Kingfisher House in 2025, Derbyshire did not have a PICU, and people who needed this level of support had to travel outside of the county to access an appropriate bed.
Having psychiatric intensive care facilities within Derbyshire ensures our most unwell service users don’t have to travel far from home for their care.
