Every year, we carry out a survey with people who use our community mental health services. This page explains more about the survey.

Why do a survey?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) requires NHS Trusts across the country to carry out a community mental health survey each year. The survey is very helpful because the results tell us more about the experiences of people who use our community mental health services. We can learn from what people say, and improve the care we provide.

How the survey is run

To make sure the survey is run properly, we ask an independent organisation to manage the survey for us. In 2025, this organisation is Picker

Picker chooses a selection of people who use our community mental health service to take part. Picker contacts these people and invites them to complete the survey.

Taking part in the survey

If you are contacted to take part, only your name, phone number and postal address will be shared with Picker. These contact details are only used for the purpose of carrying out the survey.

Particpation in the survey is voluntary - you can choose not to take part. See more on this below.

All the answers you give are confidential. Your information and survey answers will not be shared with anyone delivering your care. All published data is anonymised - in other words, the results will be published in a way that protects the identities of the people who take part.

Choosing not to take part

If you do not want to take part, or have any questions about the survey, please contact Joseph Thompson, our Assistant Director of Clinical Professional Practice: joseph.thompson@nhs.net
