Cherry Tree Court - Engaging joy, our collective artwork
This artwork was created during a recent occupational therapy student placement as an intervention at the Cherry Tree Close Rehabilitation Unit at Kingsway Hospital. The project was conducted through the CERT team and focused on enhancing engagement in activities while breaking down barriers to participation. The original design was selected by one of the residents, and the outline was drawn across 12 smaller canvases.
The concept emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving larger goals by breaking an activity into smaller, manageable tasks. The residents engaged enthusiastically and reported feeling much better after completing the project. They appreciated the conversation and the activity, which provided them with a much-needed break from their daily challenges. Many participants had never painted before, but felt that the activity was manageable enough for them to engage and chose an individual canvas each to work on during the sessions.
Once all the canvases were completed over three sessions, they were assembled and displayed in the communal summer house for everyone to enjoy. Each participant received a copy of the artwork to hang in their rooms, serving as a reminder of their achievement in completing this task. We feel so pleased that the residents have created such a beautiful artwork together that showcases their unique contributions in creating this connected artwork that is a joy to look at.
