I am a healthcare professional

Before referring a service user to Talking Mental Health Derbyshire, we ask that you take a few moments to read our 'Information for Professionals' page which describes our guidelines for referring to the service and lists the conditions which we can and cannot treat.

Once you are familiar with our guidelines, please fill in our 'referral form for healthcare professionals', completing as much information as you can as this will help us determine the most appropriate care for the patient.

Please be aware that Talking Mental Health Derbyshire is unable to accept referrals for patients under 16 years of age.

If you are seeking psychological support for someone under the age of 16 then this should be discussed with the patient's GP who can arrange for a referral to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

Alternatively, Kooth offer support for children aged between 11 and 18 (or up to 25 for those in care) via message boards and online chats.
The Mix also offers help to those under the age of 25 who may require help with their mental health, among other challenges they may be facing.

I am a friend / relative

We understand that making the initial steps to get help can be difficult and we are sometimes approached by friends of relatives wishing to refer on behalf of somebody else. While we are happy to accept referrals from a third party, we do require consent from the person being referred that they are happy for us to take and store their information if given by a friend of relative on their behalf.

If you wish to refer somebody else to our service, we recommend calling the admin team on 0300 123 0542 before 4:45pm from Monday to Friday with the person you wish to refer present with you.

The person you are referring will need to give verbal consent to us taking a referral for them from yourself. Once they have confirmed that they are happy for us to speak to you on their behalf then we can take their information over the phone.
