Construction works update

There are a number of works taking place across the Kingsway Hospital and Chesterfield Royal sites, which will allow for the construction of our new adult acute inpatient units to commence. We appreciate this may cause disruption to your journey, but please do take extra care when travelling around the sites and remain aware of oncoming traffic and heavy goods vehicles.

Please be aware that from Monday 5 September there will be approximately 150 heavy goods vehicles entering both Kingsway Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital, per week. The vehicles will drop off materials required for the completion of the groundworks and remove any excess soil and waste. This will be taking place for approximately six weeks.

Please remain extra vigilant when driving and on foot. By working together, we can ensure a safe environment for everyone.

Kingsway

Kingsway Hospital should be free of traffic management systems by the end of September; however, construction vehicles will remain on site.

Other works taking place include:

  • To allow for utility service works there is a traffic management system in place. This system will be in place for approximately three more weeks.
  • The barrier to the main car will be down from approximately 7am - 9am and 4pm each day, but remain open between these hours to allow goods vehicles access. The barrier by Albany House will remain down throughout the day.
  • Hoarding to the main site has now been delayed and will take place within the coming months.
  • Our monthly drone fly overs have commenced and will continue to take place on the first Thursday of each month (weather permitting). The drone will not be passing over any inpatient units, however, if a person is captured on the footage this will be pixelated to prevent dignity being compromised.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital site

Ground works continue to the site, including:

  • The capping of the natural gas well that runs underneath the site of the new build. A 12m exclusion zone is required for this work to take place – please remain cautious when on site and ensure any smoking breaks are taken away from the area. This has resulted in car park 8 remaining out of use for several weeks.
  • The service trench running along the front of the site will be backfilled and tarmacked this week, meaning the length between the traffic lights will be reduced.
  • Herras fencing has been erected around the contractor’s carpark.
  • To allow for service delivery, a traffic management system has commenced. There are traffic lights in place between the new build site and the Hartington Unit.
  • Hoarding to the main site has now been delayed and will take place within the coming months.
  • Our monthly drone fly overs have commenced and will continue to take place on the first Thursday of each month (weather permitting). The drone will not be passing over any inpatient units, however if a person is captured on the footage this will be pixelated to prevent dignity being compromised.

Please take care when travelling around both sites whilst the works are taking place. Once again, we apologise for any disruption and inconvenience caused, we value the continued support and patience of colleagues, patients and visitors.

Traffic management in place at Kingsway Hospital  and Chesterfield Royal

Please be aware that there are a number of works taking place across the Kingsway Hospital and Chesterfield Royal sites, which will allow for the construction of our new adult acute inpatient units to commence. We appreciate this may cause disruption to your journey, but please do take extra care when travelling around the sites and remain aware of oncoming traffic and heavy goods vehicles.

Kingsway

To allow for utility service works there is now a three way traffic management system in place, opposite the wildflower area as you enter the site, outside Tissington House and to the side of Audrey House.

Tarmac works to the junction by the Ashbourne Centre will take place on Saturday 3 September meaning the junction will be closed from 8am – 4pm. A diversion will be put in place with all traffic travelling along Kingsway Boulevard and turning right through the Tilia Homes site entrance. Directional signage will be in place to guide vehicles on the day.

Part of the works taking place is to ensure larger vehicles can access the site safely which will also guarantee emergency vehicles will have a safe entry/exit. Please be mindful of this access requirement when parking.

For you convenience we have included a map detailing all available parking on site. Do take extra care when travelling, either by vehicle or on foot, around the site whilst the works are taking place. We apologise for any disruption and inconvenience caused - we greatly value the continued support and patience of colleagues, patients and visitors.

Chesterfield

There is a natural gas well that runs underneath the site of the new build, which will need to be safely capped. Due to the safety requirements of this process, a number of parking spaces from car park 8 will be temporarily out of use. We anticipate this work will start at the end of August and should take approximately six weeks to complete, with the whole of car park 8 closed on 24 and 25 August for surface repair.

To allow for service delivery, a traffic management system has commenced between the new build site and the Hartington Unit.

Do take extra care when travelling, either by vehicle or on foot, around the site whilst the works are taking place. We apologise for any disruption and inconvenience caused - we greatly value the continued support and patience of colleagues, patients and visitors.
