The team on Tissington Ward at Kingsway Hospital in Derby, which supports adults experiencing acute mental health difficulties, have been thanked from a patient’s close family, who praised staff for the reassurance they provided during a difficult time.
In a message shared with the Trust, the patient’s family thanked the whole ward team for the care shown to their mum. They described how early phone calls helped give them “comfort and confidence” that their loved one was in caring and genuine hands.
The family gave special thanks to the ward manager, whose calm and organised leadership helped create a safe and supportive environment. They said the kindness and professionalism shown across the ward reflected the high standards set by the ward leadership.
They also praised the patient’s senior named nurse for their dedication, gentle words and attentive care, saying their patience and respect gave their loved one dignity and comfort throughout her stay.
The medical team were thanked for combining outstanding clinical care with genuine kindness and clear communication. The family also highlighted the value of multidisciplinary meetings, which they said showed how effective teamwork across services can make a real difference for patients.
The family extended their thanks to the wider ward team, including nurses, healthcare assistants, administrative staff, cleaners, kitchen staff and those working behind the scenes.
They said: “Every warm greeting, every act of practical support, update and patience helped to create a caring environment that felt safe and welcoming. Although your work often goes unseen, your hard work made a meaningful difference to our family.”
The family added: “We are sincerely grateful to each of you for the vital roles you play in providing high quality, compassionate care. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for everything you did for our loved one and for us as a family.”
Vikki Ashton Taylor, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Delivery Officer at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This feedback is a powerful reminder of the difference that compassionate, person-centred care can make to patients and their loved ones.
“It reflects the very best of our Trust values, with colleagues showing kindness, respect and a commitment to delivering exceptional care at every step. I would like to thank the whole Tissington Ward team for the care, dedication and professionalism they continue to show.”
