The Beeches, mother and baby unit is part of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) Air Arts Exhibition 2026/27 for the second year running!

Artists from across the Midlands were invited to apply for the UHDB Air Arts Exhibition 2026/27, a year-long exhibition bringing creativity into Derby and Burton hospitals.

The Beeches Mother and Baby Unit was among the successful applicants, submitting two creative and heartfelt pieces to the exhibition. The artworks were lovingly created by staff and mums receiving support from the unit.

Delivered by Air Arts, the arts programme of Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, the exhibition, titled Home, Health and Hope, explores what these three words mean in today’s world. Artists were encouraged to interpret one, two or all three themes through uplifting and thought-provoking work suitable for a healthcare environment.

The artwork will be on display until May 2027, across Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Hospital, Burton, reaching more than 12,000 NHS staff and around one million patients and visitors each year.

Air Arts has a long-standing belief in the power of creativity to support wellbeing. Art in healthcare settings has been shown to reduce anxiety, provide moments of calm and distraction, and create more welcoming, human-centred spaces for patients, visitors and staff alike. By bringing artwork into hospital corridors, waiting areas and public spaces, Air Arts helps transform clinical environments into places of comfort and connection.

We would love you to visit our fantastic pieces at Royal Derby Hospital. You will find them along the main corridor, near the Costa Coffee outlet and the Gynaecology Department. They are currently on display and will remain there until May 2027.

Our artwork is also featured in the latest edition of Air Arts Fresh magazine, which celebrates the arts and creative health across UHDB hospital settings.
