If you, or your family, have concerns about your mental health, please discuss your symptoms with your GP, midwife, health visitor or healthcare professional. They can make a referral on your behalf, if appropriate. If admission is necessary, they will complete a referral form.

What to expect on admission

On arrival at the MBU, you will be introduced to the team and shown around the unit and your bedroom. Staff will help you unpack and check the property you have brought with you. You'll receive a welcome pack which explains more about the unit.

A doctor will visit you and talk about your physical and mental health needs and the needs of your baby. Our specialist staff will take time to get to know you and together develop a plan of care. This will include treatment options, regular reviews and transition towards a successful discharge from the service.

Treatment options

Treatments available on the unit include medication, talking therapies, occupational therapy and other therapies to help with your recovery and your relationship with your baby.
