An assessment will be offered to women and birthing people where it is clinically indicated and they are:

  • Registered with a Derbyshire GP

  • From 12 weeks antenatally

  • Up to 24 months postnatal

A focused assessment will be offered by the Perinatal Team and from this the patient can be accepted into the service or can be signposted onto other relevant services.  

The outcome of the assessment will be communicated to the refer. 

Consent to referral should be obtained prior to submitting.

Routine referrals

We will aim to see routine referrals within four weeks of the referral. Where there is high clinical demand these times can vary and a waiting list  for assessment may be in operation. Should there be any changes or escalation of risk whilst waiting for assessment contact can be made with the perinatal duty clinician to discuss if a more urgent assessment is required.


Urgent referrals

We will aim to see urgent referrals within seven days of receiving the referral. Please note that on receipt of the referral the perinatal duty clinician with the team will triage the referral and the urgency of the referral could change. 

Please note that the Perinatal Community Team is not a crisis service and should a women or birthing person require urgent care then a referral to the crisis team and/or MBU should be made.
