Levels of observation 

Levels of observation are what we use on the ward to support your health, wellbeing and keep you and your baby safe.
There are different levels of observation which will be discussed and agreed with you on admission. Levels of observation will regularly be reviewed during your time with us and can change following review with the Doctor or Nurse depending on which level of observation it is.  

Level 4 – General observation 
Staff will have an awareness of your whereabouts and check you every hour. 

Level 3 – Intermittent observation 
Staff will check your whereabouts every 15 minutes. 

Level 2 – Within eyesight 
Staff will be able to see you at all times.  
A staff member will be allocated to you each hour. 

Level 1 – Within arms length 
Staff will be close by to you within arms reach.  
A staff member will be allocated to you each hour.
