What is a Perinatal Community Nursery Nurse (PCNN)?
PCNN’s are part of the perinatal mental health team. We are qualified nursery nurses with specialist perinatal training and experience. We support families during antenatal and post natal period using research based activities and interventions.
How might a PCNN work with me and my family?
- We can help with antenatal preparation including:
- Practical advice and promoting emotional wellbeing
- Planning for your baby’s arrival
- Support for partners, siblings and family members
- Signposting to community services.
- Practical baby care
- Infant feeding support to include advice on weaning
- Bathing, dressing and changing baby
- Settling, soothing, sleep and safety
- Offer ideas to support and encourage a bond with you and your baby
- Identifying what a positive interaction might look like
- To think how a baby experience’s their surroundings and environment “what is this like for my baby”
- Bonding and attachment including:
- Understanding your baby’s perspective including infant states and cues
- Promoting positive attunement between baby and carer
- Infant massage
- Age-appropriate play and child development
- Positive parenting
- Video interaction guidance
