Our nursery nurses will welcome you and your baby to The Beeches, mother and baby unit. We understand that this may be a difficult time for you and your family. Our experienced nursery nurses will provide support, guidance and reassurance, helping you on your recovery journey.
You will be allocated a named nursery nurses who will be responsible for making sure your baby care plans are up to date and are meeting your needs. Also an associate nursery nurse who will also oversee the main parts of your care.
Their role is to work together with you to promote and encourage your confidence and independence in your role as a mother and in caring for your baby while recovering. They will do this by:
- Having 1-1 time with you chatting about your care, thoughts, and feelings around baby.
- Making and reviewing baby care plans with you to look at how best to support you and your babies’ changing needs during your recovery
- Possibly doing some parenting support and/or bonding and attachment work, if needed
- Being open and honest with you
- Being approachable and supportive when you need us
- Slowly withdrawing from intense support as you progress, to make sure you are feeling more confident and independent before going home on extended leave periods or discharge
- Aiming to work towards mirroring your home routine with baby as much as possible within the limitations of the hospital environment.
We are also here to support your family / significant other with any parenting areas they may need. e.g., parenting skills, bonding activities, health worries, and making sure they continue to feel involved in their baby’s care here.
