Every year, thousands of patients miss their hospital appointments because they simply forget. A missed appointment may cause distress to the individual concerned, costs the NHS money and delays treatment and increases waiting times for all patients. It has been shown that text message reminders significantly help patients to remember their appointments and reduce the number of missed appointments.
Our new service
To help patients remember their outpatient appointment details we have introduced an appointment reminder system. Patients who have provided a mobile phone number will receive a text message reminder two days before their appointment. To receive this free service, please provide your mobile phone number via the contact details on your appointment letter.
Q. What will the text message contain?
A. The reminder will inform you of the date, time and location of your appointment and a contact number to call if you need to rearrange your appointment. For example: “You have an appt with DHCFT on 1/12/2015 at 10.30 at 42 St. Marys Gate. If you are unable to attend please call 01246 111222 to rearrange.”
Q. Does Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust send the reminder to me or is it from another company on your behalf?
A. The Trust sends the reminder to you.
Q. I need to update my contact details with you. How do I do that?
A. Please contact the appropriate department via the telephone number on your appointment letter. Alternatively, let us know the next time you visit the Trust.
Q. I have received a reminder message and want to change my appointment to another date. Do I need to do anything?
A. Yes. The reminder will provide you with a number to ring to change your appointment.
Q. I have more than one outpatient appointment over the next few days/weeks. Will I receive more than one reminder message?
A. Yes. You will receive a reminder message for each appointment.
Q. I don't want to receive a reminder message. What do I do?
A. If you do not wish to receive a reminder message about your appointment, please inform a member of staff at your next appointment and they will make the necessary changes on our electronic patient record system.
