The Pharmacy Department is based at the Ashbourne Centre, Kingsway Site, and is part of the Corporate and Clinical Support Services. 

The Pharmacy oversee all aspects of medicines management throughout the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust with two of its main responsibilities being the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and the Medicines Safety Committee.

  • Dispensary: accurately prepare, dispense, check and issue medicines in a timely manner as set out on a legible and lawful prescription.
  • Distribution: provide an efficient, accurate, cost effective and timely distribution service for all stock medicines supplied within Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Purchasing and Stock Control: procure pharmaceuticals and sundries from the most cost effective and efficient wholesalers within the regulations of the Wholesale Dealers Licence and assure the integrity of the pharmaceuticals stored within the department.
  • Ward Services: deliver an efficient and effective technician-led medicines ordering service to the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring storage and security of all medicines adhere to national and local standards.
  • Clinical Services: support medical staff, nursing staff and service users  to achieve the best use of medicines focusing on the safety and appropriateness of medicines prescribed for service users.
  • Clinical Governance: oversee the entire way that medicines are selected, procured, delivered, prescribed, administered and reviewed in the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust under the remit of Drugs and Therapeutics Committee.


We also have contracts to provide pharmacy services and supplies to other local NHS organisations.
